European Emergency number 112

News

11/02/2014 - EU emergency number 112 awareness levels stagnating since 2007

EU - 11 February 2014, Brussels At European level, still very few EU citizens are aware of 112 as the emergency number to dial all over the EU, this figure varying widely across countries. Though Member-States are organising awareness raising campaigns at national level on the occasion of the European 112 Day, more communication on 112 is needed at pan-European level.

Emmanuel Paul - President of the 112 Foundation

"Each year, more than 150 million people travel all over the EU, they should all know 112! But for 5 years 3 out of 4 European citizens are still not aware that they can dial 112 all over Europe. Now it is time to go ahead; we cannot wait 5 more years to make European citizens aware of such a vital number!"
