European citizens still not aware of the 112 number! (11/02/2012)
EU - While the European emergency number 112 is in place for more than 20 years in the EU, the annual study on the knowledge of 112 shows that there is a stagnation for 5 years: since 2008, 3 out of 4 European citizens are still not aware that they can dial 112 all over Europe.

Children's medical emergency? Dial 112! (17/10/2011)
Brussels - « The emergency chain is like a family, spreading from citizens to medical services with the necessary support of call takers and ambulances. Their quick and efficient coordination saves citizens' lives" said the 112 Foundation President, Mr. Emmanuel Paul at the press conference to launch a pediatric guide.
The 112 Foundation's President - alongside the event Ambassador, Belgian model Jade Foret, the guide's authors and French Publisher Arnaud Lagardere - stressed the importance of a correct use and the need of education towards the European emergency number 112, to ensure its efficiency and to avoid the high human costs of hoax calls.
The 112 number was established in 1991 to give EU citizens a common number to call in case of emergency (ambulances, fire-fighters and the police) in any EU Country, free of charge.
Each year 340 millions of European citizens cross the EU borders. Among them 250 millions are not aware of 112. The 112 Foundation promotes the knowledge and appropriate use of 112 in order to save their lives.
Vice-president of the European Parliament Wallis has launched a 112 information campaign (12/04/201)
Brussels - Diana Wallis, Vice-president of the European Parliament, contacted UK air and sea carriers asking that they make their passengers aware of the 112 number during the Easter holidays. EasyJet and P&O Ferries have already joined the initiative. They participated to Ms Wallis launching press conference at the European Parliament.

2011, European Year of Volunteering: Launch in Brussels (11/12/2010)
At the occasion of the launch of the European Year of Volunteering, several volunteers of the 112 Foundation promote 112 in the city centre of Brussels. Nara Noian, the Ambassador for 112 in Belgium, performed the 112 Anthem with children and taught them how to call emergency numbers.
Overview of the summer campaigns held in 2010 (23/09/2010)
During the 2010 summer holidays, emergency services organise information campaigns, using full package of tools, to promote the existence and appropriate use of the European emergency number 112. The 112 Foundation worked with the European Emergency Number Association to prepare an integrated annual action plan to promote 112 (to be used by public authorities).

112 Awards Ceremony - Apply by 30 April! (13/04/2010)
The 4th edition of the 112 Awards Ceremony will be held under the patronage of the Belgian presidency of the EU on 8 November 2010 in the "Palais d'Egmont", Brussels. The 112 Awards Ceremony intends to recognise and congratulate individuals and organisations particularly engaged in improving and promoting the European emergency number 112. Every individual and organisation, which show evidence of extraordinary behaviour and/ or results and / or achievements in categories such as Education on 112, Emergency Service Integration or PSAP Initiative Award can submit a testimony and apply for a 112 Award. The 112 Awards are selected by members of the EENA's Advisory Board and members of the 112 Emergency Services Staff Network. The 112 Awards Ceremony will be attended by several high level political personalities, representatives of EU Institutions, emergency services and solution providers.

The EU-112 Event in Murcia, Spain (25-26/03/2010)
500 representatives from emergency services, public authorities and industries (24 countries represented) met in Murcia during the EU112 event. The aim of the workshop was to foster sharing of best practices between "112" stakeholders. Attendees got acquainted with new information and ideas that can help to continue improving and promoting 112. A Street fair was also organised and was visited by 2.000 pupils from schools of the region.

Skype informs its customers about 112 (20/01/2010)
Skype recently decided to educate its customers about the existence and the appropriate use of 112. Therefore you can now find a dedicated webpage on its website. Notice that, as Skype is not a traditional telephone service or a replacement for your primary telephone service (landline or mobile phone), it does not allow you to make emergency calls to emergency services. You must make alternative communications arrangements to ensure that you can make emergency calls if needed.
MEP supporting 112 questions new Commissioner during hearings (14/01/2010)
On 14 January 2010 (hearings of the new European Commissioners at the European Parliament in Brussels), the Member of the European Parliament, Fiona Hall, from the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe political group, asked a question about 112 and caller-location to Commissioner Neelie Kroes (Digital Agenda portfolio) during her hearing. The question aimed to raise awareness on the importance of providing EU emergency services with the means so that they can deploy and use the appropriate technologies. The lack of accurate caller-location technology availability for PSAPs was mentioned as an example. Proposed Commissioner Kroes replied that the Commission's role will be to draw the Member States' attention to the importance of the European emergency number 112 and its relevant aspects.

The World Stroke Organisation urges everyone to fight stroke - 29/10/2009
With the "World Stroke Day", the World Stroke Organisation (WSO) aims to communicate a unified message to the world: "stroke is a preventable and treatable catastrophe, and together we can fight this growing epidemic." This year's theme is "Stroke‐What can I do?" The answer is ‐ a lot. The WSO prompts individuals, groups and governments to take action against stroke either at a personal, family, or group level. Everywhere in Europe, emergency services are reachable thanks to a unique number: 112.
Nara Noian is the new Ambassador for 112 in Belgium - 12/10/2009
Nara Noian is the Belgian singer who performed the 112 Anthem at the European Parliament, Brussels, during the first official European 112 Day on 11th of February 2009. Since this very important day for the European emergency number, Nara has contributed to promote 112 in Belgium (interviews by radio and TV). She also performed the 911 Anthem in Washington DC on the 24th of March 2009 during the 911 Honor Awards Gala.
Regarding to Nara's active contribution to promote the European emergency number, the 112 Foundation decided to make her involvement official: Nara Noian was appointed in September 2009 as Ambassador for 112 in Belgium.
The 112 Emergency Services Staff Network met to prepare the European 112 Day - 23/09/2009
The 11th of February 2010 is still far away but emergency services from all Europe are already thinking about the European 112 Day. During a conference call organised by the 112 Foundation and the European Emergency Number Association (EENA), they met to discuss how to promote the 112 number in the best way and to exchange experience and knowledge in this field. Sweden, Romania, Spain and Iceland presented how they promoted 112 during previous European 112 Day and what they are planning to organise for 2010.

Romania nominated its 112 Ambassador - 26/08/2009
Following the advice of the 112 Foundation, the Special Telecommunication Service, which is in charge with 112 in Romania, decided in May to appoint a Romanian 112 Ambassador to promote 112 amongs Romanian people. Monica Anghel, a notorious singer and actress, has been appointed 112 Ambassador for Romania, thus taking the responsibility of promoting the existence and the correct use of 112. "It is my honor to be the 112 Ambassador in Romania. This position implies great responsibility, which I assume entirely. I plan to promote this number as efficiently as possible", stated Monica.
Together with the music composer Andrei Tudor and the lyrics composer Andreea Andrei, Monica Anghel composed the 112 Romanian anthem which will be followed by a videoclip. The song was heard on the radio public station "Radio Romania" and the national radio station "Europa FM". The official launching of the 112 Romanian anthemn will take place in September 2009.

The Slovak Ministry of Interior officially uses the 112 logo created by the 112 Foundation - 09/07/2009
Since July 2009, the Slovak Ministry of Interior officially uses the 112 logo created by the 112 Foundation to inform on the European emergency number. 112 works in Slovak Republic as well as in the 26 other Member States of the European Union! In case you are in the Slovak Republic and you find yourself in an emergency situation, please call 112!
The European Federation of Campingsite Organisations and Holiday Park Associations (EFCO&HPA) informs its members on 112 - 03/07/2009
The EFCO&HPA have sent an article on 112 and information material (poster to hang up) to its 23 members across Europe, which represent hundreds of thousands of campsites across Europe.
The European Union Federation of Youth Hostel Associations informs its members on 112 - 03/07/2009
As a partner of the 112 Foundation, the European Union Federation of Youth Hostel Associations has invited its members to promote 112 thanks to information materials provided by the Foundation. We hope this information campaign will be set up by a lot of youth hostels all over Europe.
An internal campaign on 112 organised by BLOM SISTEMAS GEOESPACIALES
In Spain, BLOM SISTEMAS GEOESPACIALES organised in May an internal campaign on 112. The company decided to inform its employees on the european emergency number before summer holidays. During these ones, many employees will go abroad in another country of the EU and could need help of emergency services. Blom published an article in its Newsletter of May and gave cards with 112 sticker to all employees.
Louis Michel becomes Honorary Member of the 112 Foundation
Louis Michel has been actively promoting the European emergency number for 10 years. In 1999, Louis Michel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium at that time, became the first honorary member and supporter of the EENA, the European Emergency Number Association. Thanks to this contribution, EENA could actively promote the knowledge and appropriate functioning of the 112 for 10 years and set up the 112 Foundation in 2009.
Children Emergency Preparedness Kit project
20 May 2009 - Following a call for proposal of the European Commission, the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) has submited a project aiming at providing educational materials to all organisations willing to educate children on how to behave in case of emergency situation and on the European emergency number 112.
The Children Emergency Preparedness Kit project will focus on encouraging the introduction in schools of educational materials (standardised tools and resources) on emergency in order to prevent injuries as well as to drop their severity. It will review and gather existing materials, as well as related literature, from EU Member States and develop standardised content in all EU official languages based on a common graphic identity thanks to the participation and advices of experts from emergency services, child safety and education backgrounds. The materials will be available online free of charge to any organisation willing to educate on emergency preparedness and 112. Safety and education professionals will be invited to disseminate and use the output.
Nara Noian Raises Awareness About 9-1-1
Nara arrived here last month on behalf of the 9-1-1 awareness campaign, created to build awareness among children of the importance of the universal emergency call number. Although the emergency number 9-1-1 is virtually ubiquitous among adults in the United States, the European Union must still make a concerted effort toward to raising awareness of its own emergency calling system—the 1-1-2 continent-wide number.

The 3rd 112 Awards Ceremony were held on 10 February 2009, eve of the 2nd European 112 Day (11/2) on 11 February 2009 in Brussels with the presence of several high-level politicians. The 112 Awards Ceremony intends to recognise and congratulate individuals and organisations which have shown evidence of extraordinary behaviour and/or results and/or achievements in the several categories.

The European 112 day
11 February 2009 marks the second edition of the European 112 Day (11/2) with the aim of informing EU citizens on the European emergency number 112. More and more Member States now organise the 112 Day on that same date such as Finland, Romania, Netherlands, Poland and Denmark. The organisation of the European 112 Day follows the efforts of the EU to promote the 112 and on that day, a Tripartite Convention between European Parliament, European Commission and the Council on the establishment of the official European 112 day on 11th of February has been signed (as proposed by the European Parliament). The signature of this convention will provide more recognition for the 112.
The European Parliament invited the singer Nara Noian to perform the 112 anthem with a children choir. The lyrics of the 112 anthem were proposed by EU citizens themselves thanks to a competition held on Internet and which will recognize the best texts in all official EU languages. The Commission, the Council and several Members of the European Parliament also presented to the audience the perspectives and challenges for our emergency number.
